MISSION

The goal of the Through Her Eyes project is to bring awareness and financial support to women’s sports around the world.  The project aims to achieve this by documenting the lives and thoughts of the women playing sports across the globe who are changing traditional social roles for women. By creating an exhibit of these voices and faces, we raise awareness about the benefits of sports for women, get more women into the game and increase funding for women’s sports around the world.

By producing a visual and written example of role models, peers, women and girls, who are playing sports and breaking the mold, this project creates a motivating factor, to get women and girls into the game.  Through Her Eyes brings awareness to non-governmental organizations, governmental organizations and corporations about the benefits to women and leads to greater support and funding for women’s sports.

While sports have not traditionally been regarded as a development tool, participation in athletics can give women a multitude of skills to succeed and excel in their communities. Women that participate in sports gain a sense of self-confidence, community, and the conviction that they can achieve much more than what they had imagined for themselves.

By getting on to the fields, courts, and streets, women are winning in sports and in their communities.  The project aims to prove that sports can act as a vehicle for social development by creating new opportunities for women. In recording the images and thoughts of female athletes from mothers who play pick up soccer games on the weekends to athletes who compete on the international level - the mission is to showcase  these women and present them as an example and an inspiration for both participation in sports and in funding programs for women around the world.
